Everything comes typed these days, and its really getting a bit boring.
Time to get back to basics, originality, and character. Back to handwriting.
I love receiving something from a friend in the mail, but it hardly ever happens these days. I have a beautiful old hat box that I have filled with letters, cards, home made tapes(!) and notes from friends. They start from when I was about 10 and finish sometime in my mid 20s.
Recently, out of the blue I sent my good friend MissMeg a card, just to say hi. She loved it, I loved that she loved it.
So here is my new challenge:
Every week for the next six weeks I will be handwriting a letter or card and posting (remember that) the letter to someone fabulous.
If you feel up to the challenge, join in and let me know how you go.
Beautiful stationery may be desired, but not required, but it might be time to give my fancy pants pen a whirl.
Fancy Pants Pen, time for some action |
I have had this ink pot for about 15 years, Mum found it somewhere, no idea how old it is, but I love to use it. |
yes that is always a treat to get a letter in the mail, l know my 3 wild kids love getting anything thing in the mail, as we only get post 3 times a week it is a real thrill to get aletter.
ReplyDeleteI will be waiting for mine.
It seems rather ridiculous of me to say this but.... awwww! What an ace, cute "idea". That is just crazy, but technology is such a culprit in this day and age. I tried writing a letter last week and my hand cramped by the end of the first page!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I can't even remember the last time I received something handwritten that was not just a 'memo' at work!
ReplyDeleteLove your thought process and look forward to seeing what others think!!
I also love hand written letters and cards (posted) and still have a pen-friend in Italy who I write to - our letters aren't that frequent as we are both busy, but it's very relaxing to sit down and write an actual letter.
ReplyDeleteI am up for the challenge, great idea!
Great to have Alison on board to keep me company in the challenge.
ReplyDeleteYou should be added to my challenge list now (if all went well). Being Me are you keen to give it a try, or still massaging that cramped hand :)
Thanks for adding me onto your blog! Will write a letter tomorrow. There's a few friends interstate I need to keep in touch with who I know would love something in the mail.
ReplyDeleteI am off to a flying start, two letters in the post today, but sadly fancy pants pen didn't get any action. Maybe tonight, if the stars align and the girls go to bed on time I might break it out for another, yes, a third, letter for the day.
ReplyDeleteI am such a big fan of the hand-written note, and quite often post them. Yep I'll get into this habit. I love this.
ReplyDeleteWelcome aboard the good ship, Penmanship, PMM.
ReplyDeleteI'm just over from Alison's blog and I would love to jump on the bandwagon. Yay!
ReplyDeleteClaire, I've seen your comments on my blog and Kids Book Review and have been meaning to make my way over and say hi. First, though, I was looking at Melbourne Mumma's blog and saw this 6 week challenge so I clicked through and here I am... hi!

ReplyDeleteFabulous, will hook you up to the list that are joining in.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea Claire! I just spent the weekend with 6 of my favorite girlfriends.. all but one from interstate. And I just know they would love to get a hand written letter. So, now I have the intention.. will I be able to follow through to inception???
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea. I just read about it over at Wouldn't it be Loverly and I was moved to write to tell you how much I like it. x
ReplyDeletelove this idea - going to take your challenge up and blog about it! thanks. Naomi
ReplyDeleteBrilliant!
ReplyDeleteI'm putting two postage stamps on handwritten envelopes containing two handwritten cards....as soon as I get my hands off this typewriter.
x Felicity
I've had this post open for a day or so, meaning to comment. I would love to be part of this! I always loved getting mail and writing letters to others. Can I join?
ReplyDeleteCount me in. My brother has started writing a letter a day to someone. I keep thinking it would be nice to write back, so now I will.
ReplyDeleteCount me in too. My grandchildren are going to love this too.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a fantastic challenge, I used love writting letters in my teenage years.
ReplyDeleteI saw you mentioned on Purplume's blog and thought I'd stop by to say hello. A great idea, I still love both sending and getting snailmail.
ReplyDeletei really miss receiving hand written letters. I used to be a big letter writer. This has prompted me to send some mail to some special friends, thank you
ReplyDeleteI saw this over on purplumes' blog and thought I would check it out. I think it is a great idea now if I only knew who I could write to.
ReplyDeleteCherylann, get writing to the grand kids, they will love it.
ReplyDeleteExcellent! There is far more to handwriting than just the cozy feeling. Info goes deeper than with type and also it gets out a lot more deeper things. Bottom line, baboons are unbeatable a typing, while handwriting is something else.
ReplyDeletegoes for drawing too, but unfortunately people keep themselves from that if they do not excel
ps. for those in need of someone to write to, http://www.postcrossing.com/
