May 24: The last book you read

I haven't quite finished this one yet.

It isn't even a new book and the rest of the world may have read this a decade ago, but it is new to me.

It kicks off with a man going blind with no reason at all, it's a different type of blindness, he can see white, not black.

And the blindness is contagious.

How does society deal with a virus that makes people instantly blind? What does the fear of the virus do to behaviour of usually normal people?

I can't tell you how good it ends (or badly) or if the story stays so addictive the whole way through, but I do suggest you get this on your want to read list.

  1. Oooh! I read Day of the Triffids again earlier this year. After a cosmic event, most of the world becomes blind and the book deals with what happens to civilisation in the wake of this great disaster (with some man-eating plants thrown in for good measure). It would be interesting to compare the two. When was this one written?

  2. If it's any good let me know and I'll read it, love me a bit of virus type books! And yes to Sam's comment, I loved Triffids, so many great old books out there :)

  3. There isn't enough time to read all the books I want to - this sounds interesting.

  4. Your description of it makes me want to read it. But when? I know I have to make time, but it'll have to be at the expense of something else, and I just don't know which other activity in my day I can give up!

Commenting brings amazing luck, you must try it and see how you go!
