The odd sock issue in the Huey house is out of control.
Yesterday I gave up the fight, gathered all the lonely ones together gave Immy a permanent marker and just like that we had an afternoons activity organised.
Call it recycling or thrifty, crafty or creative. The drawers are now cleaner and we have lots of new puppets.
What a fantastic idea. I have our odd socks on a little board in the laundry that says 'lost socks' but I think I'm going to take them down and do this!!
Weirdly, we don't really have a problem with odd socks. At the most, we have three or four and it's never the same three or four socks each week! Right now, there's one of mine, one of the bloke's and one each of the kids. Last week, it was three of the big kid's socks and one of the little kid's socks. Next week... who knows!
(I've found that since I only wash once a week that socks don't seem to go astray as quickly. When I washed every couple of days, I always had heaps of oddies!)
Now why didn't I think of that! Brilliant. Our odd socks end up on the laundry window sill waiting in vain for their mate. Occasionally I find the mate inside a doona cover or 6 months down the track when I catch up with the laundry. Mostly they never meet their match so I thinknill just do this....great idea :-)

ReplyDeleteLove it! I keep them in the drawer hoping their friends will come home but your approach is far more pragmatic & fun. X
ReplyDeleteI was sorting my 10 year-old's socks and found she'd done this to more than half of hers... *sigh*
ReplyDeleteOur odd socks are used for polishing the cars... :D
Polishing anything might be easier with a sick...now to find some polish!
DeleteGreat idea! We have so many at our home I am beginning to suspect someone is stealing them. And now I know why!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe sure have a large quantity too..I could do this as a group activity!

What a great idea! I am so going to do that with the little Miss tomorrow! Thanks Clairey :)
ReplyDeleteI have a girl who LOVES Punky Brewster so wearing odd socks is a choice that she makes!
ReplyDeleteThis I perfectly understand, always loved puny myself. Add in some Pippi plaits and you have the perfect girls attire for me.
DeletePunky!
