It's happened.We have a box of 50 chocolate bars to sell to raise money for the primary school. I have been dreading this moment because I know my will power fails when chocolate is in the house.
Our street is filled with school kids and they do not want to be buying our chocolate, they have a box already.
A mum at school pick up told me she got rid of hers on the first night they came home from school. I couldn't believe it, I asked her for tips on what to do. Easy she said, I just walked around to my Mums house, my brothers house and the in laws and made them all buy some.
Once again I realise in life it is not at all about what you know and all about who you know. In this case, who do I know that I can pester into buying 50 chocolate bars (ok, about 41, I am slowly working my way through them).
I am all for school fundraisers and joining in, but aren't there better options than the chocolate box, my hips really don't need them.
How does your school raise money?
Lots of schools here are choosing non-choc options as a healthier choice - they're going for bulbs, entertainment books etc

I am keen to suggest bulbs too. Of course I am sure they will say yes if I want to organise it.
DeleteTake em into a workplace, yours, your husband's? Don't know your situation, but it's better than buying them all yourself.
ReplyDeleteWe do cake stalls 3 times a year (over $1000 each time), an event (last year snow ball) and walkathon. School council decision not to do chocolate as doesn't fit with school values (and yes, we're a state school)

DeleteA spelling bee is good, each kid gets sponors, dont have to do too much at home, our school raised almost $10000 last uear

DeleteI am able to flog mine off to the staff at work in all of about 5 minutes. that said our school has an option. sell chocolates or donate $20 which is what they make. options are good.
ReplyDeleteI wish we had the option to do that too, much easier to just give the twenty. I think we can return the full box but that wouldnt help the school.
ReplyDeletePity I can't buy them from you! Postage would be a killer I imagine. There are some great fundraising tips above. We did the readathon thing when I was a wee lass too. I hope the school finds a better way that suits you. X

ReplyDeleteI organised a wine raffle at Miss6's school - parents donate a bottle of wine, and it all goes into one very attractive and enticing barrel. Can you guess how easy it is to sell raffle tickets for a barrel full of wine?

ReplyDeleteour preschool has the option of chocolate.. or jelly snakes :) But we can say no. I know we (the family) will eat most of them too!
ReplyDeleteOh we just had the chocolate box too. Managed to sell some to the neighbours. The rest,....well you know....
ReplyDeleteTake them to work and offer them around at 2:30/3pm - always works a dream for me. Right when everyone gets hungry. Usually all gone in 10 minutes!
