I am not afraid.

I am not afraid of a little craft mess.

I know that once I set up a messy bit of fun Immy will be thrilled for the next half hour.

Yes, I will then be cleaning it for another half hour after that, but I am most likely going to be cleaning anyway.

Be it paint, play dough (home made and staining the bench top) window textas, footpath chalk, gluing, sticking, cutting. I shall not be afraid.

But I have many friends that say this sort of stuff is for kinder only.

Are you scared of craft?

  1. how fun! Some of my favourite memories are crafting with mum. or in the kitchen. mess = fun. Mum was a kinder teacher so she's rad at it.

  2. that is a fabulous photos!

I'm not afraid of a bit of mess either... my kids will paint or play with water for hours, and it totally makes up for the cleaning time. Plus if you set things up right, cleaning up isn't so hard. Add a squirt of dishwashing detergent to your finger pain and do it on a big plastic sheet next time... then the kids can help clean up too!

    1. Great idea Kate, the big plastic sheet might have to be an outside one for me. I am betting they use their entire bodies for that one.

  3. I'm not afraid either. I let her loose with a paint brush and paint on the glass sliding doors last week. But then armed her with soapy water to clean it up too, and she did a great job! Entertainment and clean windows!

    1. I do the same Shelly, I recently grabbed the chalk textas from Smiggle for the girls to use on our sliding glass windows and then gave them the spray and a cloth to clean up. Funny, when you leave if for a few days and the weather gets frosty, it all drips down the window - not that I would ever leave my windows messy!

  4. Yes! Yes, I am! I got the heebie-geebies just looking at those painty hands.
But I do suck it up occasionally and let them go for it.

    1. I believe you are not alone Corinne. I know many Mums who even throw out gifts of messy craft such is their fear of grubby little fingers getting into things.

  5. Yes I'm afraid! I have a Jimmy Possum white lounge in my 'good room' and you can sure as hell bet that paint would get on it. I figure my daughter does it for the whole days at preschool every week, surely she can entertain herself with pencils, crayons, textas and glue without resorting to paint getting on my Jimmy Possum.

    1. Learn from me - my white leather lounge is now what I prefer to call "soft dove grey"!

  6. Not in the slightest bit afraid BUT I had to stop myself from being so and had to learn to relax in to things. I don't have anything that nice that I'd be upset about him ruining but we do have "rules" in place about where he's allowed to paint etc. And I set up the clean up tools at the same time as I set up the activity so I don't freak out. I'm the same with cooking. I did truly have to let my inner control freak go though. :) x

    1. Oh Cat, when it comes to cake cooking with the kids, I let them do nearly all of it except the stove and mixmaster. Maybe this is why I have so many failures - maybe I need some rules.

  8. I'm scared of the mess and of having to participate. A lot of kids craft just doesn't turn me on. Sometimes I participate, sometimes I don't, or I do something else at the same table.

But the setting up? The cleaning? I need a craft fairy!

  9. We do a bit of craft stuff and although I'm not scared of the mess, I'm generally flabbergasted at the amount of mess created in what is usually only a 10 minute burst of creativity. Wouldn't mind so much if the activity lasted a couple of hours :-)

  10. I'm not afraid... I just know that the 5 minutes of fun will DEFINITELY be followed by about 30 minutes of clean up. We have completely covered the dining room/kitchen floor in tarps, rolled back the persian rug and let the Munchkin "go for it" only to have the loungeroom carpet, stairs, hallway walls, bathroom door, bathroom tiles, taps etc etc completely covered in paint only 15 minutes later. Art is strictly an outdoor activity here! And besides, he prefers woodworking and housepainting with his Dad anyway...

  12. You are very brave.

I couldn't trust my boys with paints inside the house. It would just do too much damage.

So, hats off to you. I'm a mum who has The Fear.

    xx

  13. Not afraid, but then my children are much, much neater than I am. One day someone will break into my house, assume that it's already been ransacked and then leave again.

    That's the plan, anyway.

  14. Yes, I am afraid. My whole world has been in chaos, so the thought of adding more just might tip me over. I know there will be a time when I'm feeling better in myself that this won't be such a burden, but for now it is. I admire you for not being afraid.

  15. I'm not too afraid of kid craft mess. Not that much of that is happening in a hotel, but back home we dabble.
But my own craft area, back when I used to make my own greeting cards and gifts and sew stuff.. hideous mess. I don't do that so much anymore. bits of thread and glitter everywhere.

  16. I am not afraid of craft mess at home. This I am sure has to do with the fact I am a kindy teacher. I marvel when I watch the children create, make mess and explore the textures. My two are getting a little to big now for craft mess. I guess it is craft of a different kind. I am sure the baby on the way will ignite our love for crafty goodness.
