After seeing the movie in the Christmas holidays we downloaded the soundtrack and it was on repeat for weeks.
We saw the movie a couple more times and then last week I took the girls to the Sing-along Version of the movie.
What's not to love? Immy got her favourite seat in the cinema (second front row) and was able to sing along with all the songs, even though she can't read the words on the screen.
Immy has me all organised to do the duets with her and has her ipad set so that she can watch Elsa and Anna on YouTube at any time.
She wants hair like Queen Elsa, and a lacy cape to swish.
The thing is, we have never been so caught up in a movie. For years, I have watched little kids be obsessed with Buzz Lightyear. The movie Cars ended up plastered over everything you could possibly think of for years and even though my kids enjoyed most of these movies (except Brave, still haven't watched that again) they never got so caught up in the story lines or obsessed with characters.
They never played games imagining they were the characters from a movie nor did they want to dress up as these characters or request toys from movies.
But they love Frozen, Immy most of all. Or maybe it is me most of all.
There is just so much to enjoy with this film. Olaf the snowman is just a delightfully funny character, one that you can't help to want to see more of. The relationship between sisters Anna and Elsa, while very Disney, is still a very sisterly relationship. The stone people, the trolls, are hilarious, I could have watched them for longer.
Even the 10 seconds in this clip are funny.
In the end of the movie we are reminded that true love is not waiting for a man to sweep you off your feet. It's your sister. Your sibling who loves you so much that she will risk her life for you, this is the act of true love. The concept of love at first sight...that is something to mock, you can't love someone when you don't even know their last name.
The animation is brilliant. The songs are catchy but even after having to listen to them 7654 times this summer, it's been ok.
If you need to be a Princess than being Elsa or Anna ain't such a bad thing. You can ride a horse and climb mountains, fight off a pack of wolves and create magical snowmen. You can also sing. Man, can you sing.
While I admit I haven't looked too hard, I am yet to see a gazillion products, clothing, toys and equipment covered in the Frozen branding, I can certainly see why some kids will be pestering their parents to get them stuff.
And when I saw this outfit whipped up by a talented lady on Instagram for her daughter, it was just moments before I whipped off an email to her to order Immy her very own Elsa apron.
Long Live the Queen.
Oh I LOVE Giggleberry her designs are amazing! I went to see Frozen with my cousins when it came out. Maybe because I was heavily pregnant at the time but the Mickey Mouse animation at the start made me want to leave the cinema! Really did not set me up to be in the right mood to watch this and my sister agreed! It was overly violent much like the original cartoons but I don't think it was necessary at all but that's just my opinion!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter loves Frozen too and even wants it as her birthday party theme this year! been cracking my head planning for it haha
ReplyDeleteAi @ Sakura Haruka
Hi Ai, a frozen party would be fab - great music, lots of ice cream - perfect.
DeleteYep my kids got into it but not obsessively. We only saw it once though. Might be different when it comes out on DVD :)
ReplyDeleteOops hit publish too soon!
DeleteWhat I meant to say was I love the message behind it. It's such a good one for little kids, and a greater discussion starter for older kids too. It's definitely the best movie from Disney in a long long while
My middle son was obsessive about "The Lion King" when it came out. He had all the Happy Meal toys and carried them around in a little sack wherever he went. I do miss taking them all to see movies although my twenty four year old still insists we go the the latest Hobbit movies to uphold the old tradition left over from when the Lord of the Rings series came out.I'll have to watch Frozen :)
ReplyDeleteHaven't watched it but I've heard a lot about it. I love that it's empowering for young girls. Going to have to check it out when it's on DVD.
ReplyDeleteI loved Frozen too! Hubby took OLivia to see it at the movies and they both enjoyed it. Olaf is adorable.
ReplyDeleteWe love it do. By far the best Disney film yet I think. We have just downloaded at home and already my Miss H has watched it three (more) times xx
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the review. I haven't taken my kids to see it yet but think I will after reading this. Great meaning behind the movie.
ReplyDeleteLet me know what you think of it.
DeleteI think I am the only person in the known universe who hasn't seen Frozen yet. My three and a half year old scares easily and I heard it was a tad scary. What do you think? She got scared during Finding Nemo to give you an indication :)
ReplyDeleteAs much as I loved this movie, it's important to remember that it is rated PG. My eldest was not a fan of scary and would not have liked this movie, she also never liked Lion King or Nemo etc - they are big movies, big themes and really, at 3 there is plenty on offer in shorter programs etc. A new Dora DVD is often better!
DeleteMy son has watched it about 18 times, no exaggeration, he had surgery nearly 3 weeks ago and we had it on his iPad so he could watch it. It was calming for him. And now it has a special place in my heart because it was something that got him through days of pain at hospital. Maybe when he goes back in 10 days to have his stent removed I'll bring it! LOVE FROZEN!
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched the whole movie. Have watched parts of it and the girls seem to like watching it. Lol, that nose bump is funny :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely fell in love with Frozen. It reminded me of movies that I grew up with. Movies that had more singing than talking, that had swishy dresses and beautiful princess crowns. Mr 4 wasn't overly in love with it, but I could easily see it another 100 times!
ReplyDeleteWe love Frozen here too! My daughter is out of the character dress-up phase but we're doing Anna and Elsa's hairstyles for school and singing along to the songs. All 4 of my kids love it and they are ages 5 to 9, boys and girls, it appeals to everyone, myself included! Olaf is my favourite. I agree, it's been a while since there has been a movie that has been such a hit......."Tangled" was popular from a few years back but I can't think of anything they have obsessed about since, other than Minecraft :-)
ReplyDeleteYeah, my kids love it as well. You're right, there hasn't been a lot of merchandise available in Australia, although there is plenty of it overseas. I have a few friends who've ebayed costumes etc from the States. They must be waiting for some kind of rights thing here I think - seems odd. My talented mum made costumes for my kids though, which is probably nicer anyway.
