Germies

I said I would embrace winter and I am.

But gee winter is a hard master to follow fondly.

I have spent the morning dealing with Immy getting a fast appearing ear infection which probably came from the chest infection also diagnosed.

As her temperature started to soar, I was too low on kids panadol to top  her up, so I headed to the chemist/doctor and ended up straight into the doctors room after the reception staff moved all the other patients around to get me in earlier than my actual appointment, they took one look at the misery I was carrying in my arms and knew she wasn't well.

Thanks to the wonders of medicine Immy is now more comfortable, lying on the couch watching her old favourite DVDs.

Before she got herself snuggled she declared it pyjama day, just like the school kids had last week.

I have been told to wear my slippers so we can be the same and I am happy to partake.

I 've also stocked up on the winter essentials. Night time fevers always spike when you run out of pain relief - so this is like a safety net - if I have supplies in the cupboard I probably won't need them, the day you run out is the night you will need them.

Do you keep a well stocked medicine cabinet?

  1. We have the basics on hand. And a huge jar of Vitamin C to ward off the evil cold spirits. Hope Immy gets better soon x

  2. I complete agree with you, the moment I have run out of pain relief - fever hits! Last time I went to the chemist I had to explain that I was stocking up for winter - for my house and both grandmas (I can't let them spend so much of kids medicine - buying their own is enough) I certainly got some weird looks for other people in the chemist that day - hope Immy feels better soon - love the idea of pyjama day - bliss xx

    1. I have done the same! People look at you as though you are going home to drug the kids to sleep! I keep a bottle at each of the Grannies houses too as you just never know when you will need it and they are both in the country. Once I used to keep a bottle in the car, but I am not so paranoid these days!

  3. I do now! Having been blessed with ridiculously healthy kids, stuff would reach its useby date well before I'd reach the end of the bottle. So, being the Good Mother who didn't want to poison my kids, did the massive clean out, chucked everything that was past it and wrote myself a shopping list.

Probably two nights later, Big Kid gets the plague of epic proportions, which turns into croup, I have absolutely NOTHING in the house that remotely resembles anything of use, and not only that, I'm the only adult at home!

Ambulance trip and a night in hospital and I now keep *everything* suitably stocked up!

    1. Cripes. That is what they refer to as learning the hard way!

Question is, if the stuff is past the used by date and was all you had, would you still be better to use it than not? Mmm, I don't know - these are the questions that consume my head some days!

  4. The kid's Panadol is one of the things I check if I'm low on before I go shopping :). I am thankful though I don't have to resort to bonjela- those days of grizzling teething are long gone. Can heartily endorse the pyjama day, which is essentially 'I will watch DVDs with my favourite toys and have mummy wait on me' this is enjoyed by kids of all ages from 5 to 45!
