The Terrible Pants

On the weekend I was delighted to find myself a new pair of cargo style pants, the type you can roll up and wear in summer so I could wear them pretty much year round/

Colour, fabric, price, comfort all seemed perfect.

Yesterday after waiting around all day I threw them on, rolled down for winter, with a new black jumper I recently got. I was so comfortable, so warm and loved wearing my new outfit.

I was cooking tea when Popps came over and said, "Mum, I don't want to hurt your feelings, but those pants are really stupid. They are dumb. You should give them away. They are terrible."

I told her they were new, I liked them, I thought they were ok.

Popps has requested that I don't wear them to school pick up anymore, they are really bad pants and she thought I was looking weird.

At bed time she double checked with "you wont wear those pants again tomorrow will you?".

I was laughing to Mr H later on, saying can you believe that she has started to try and tell me what to wear?

He smirked an odd grin and simply said 'please don't wear them out of the house, go and buy something else, they are shockers.

Maybe I will try them again in the summer time.

This is them without the model and rolled down, what do you think...Keep or throw?

  1. If it was me, I'd donate them. I'm usually pretty good with clothing choices, but sometimes I pick something that does not flatter me. Now, while the word my child may not sway me as much, my hubby is usually pretty spot on. He knows what flatters me and can be a great help.

On the other hand, I have some items I love to wear and he hates, and I don't care one bit. So perhaps, if you like them keep them, wear them. But if you are having doubts, donate!

  2. Wow. Such strong reactions. They look fine to me. Did they give reasons?

    1. Too baggy, too saggy. Man pants. A couple of the comments!

  3. It's the colour, mostly. And the elastic waist. Although they'd look much better rolled up, I think. Probably.

I trust my oldest kids' opinion when it comes to clothes (fashion policeman from waaaaay back - before he could talk even). The smaller one likes to colour block.

  4. Goodness! They don't look so bad to me!! But I do tend to rely on my husband for his opinion, somehow he's more stylish than me. Am not looking forward to the age when my little boy will start giving his opinion too though!

  5. Oh good Lord ... I can't imagine why they elicited that kind of reaction from anyone, on or off. Really, there are worse things a person could wear - like leggings as pants with a crop top for example.

Actually, give that a go and see what they say.

  6. Time to chuck them- how can you possibly wear them now after all that's been said?! I put on a new jumper the other day and when I came out my boys actually stopped playing and just stared and said, 'why are you wearing that funny top?' Ruined it for me. Won't wear it again now!!

  8. I honestly don't think they look that horrible. They look pretty comfy - I say screw them all. If your comfy and you like them just wear them!!

  9. I think these pants would be the perfect compliment to those mornings when the kids are feral and refusing to get ready for school...not that I think they are bad pants...but if everyone hates em...you have yourself a little currency!

  11. I don't dislike them - however, I think you will always have those words in your mind whenever you put them on! I have a skirt that I love, but have stopped wearing after my husband told me "you can see your undie line really clearly in that skirt"... thanks husband! But then again...he hates my puffer vest and I live in that!

  12. I can tell who wears the pants in your house :) I think they are cute, but I agree with Renee, you will always remember those words when you wear them. Perhaps you could run a competition to win them!!!

  13. It's hard to tell what they're like on you though I suspect they're a bit shapeless for you lovely. I think if you can match to the right shoes & top they may be fine. If they're comfy and you think you can live with them knowing the comments your darlings have made then keep them. X

  14. I think its the skinny leg fashion that's in at the moment with teens (at least here in Ireland anyway) so my kids are not at all happy with anything baggy. Maybe thats what got yours thinking your new cargo pants were NOT good?!

  15. Interesting experiment... put your thumb over the model's head and then decide if the outfit is attractive. Me neither.

  16. I honestly don't think that they are too bad at all. But then I like baggy comfy pants, especially in summer.
